Newbie with some troubles. Bought a 1993 Four Winns Horizon 210 with a 5.8l OMC V8. Intended to wakeboard with the boat but the motor boggs down on hard acceleration and will occasionally die. If I ease into the acceleration, the boat runs fine and runs perfect at high speed. The spark plugs have been replaced, as well as the oil. Carbs been cleaned. The belts are squeeking so that might have something to do with it and will look into get the belts replaced. Anything I should look out for? Timing out of whack? Been noticing more than normal water coming into the bilge area. Not really sure where it is coming in from and if there is any correlation to the bogging. Thanks for the help!

Re: bogging on acceleration

Borrow or rent a timing light. See what the timing does as you accelerate. It should advance smooth and quickly.

If you have a distributor, with points, the timing advance plate (point mounting plate) can stick or the springs are broken.

Also, you may have a carburetor accelerator pump issue. You should be able to see a squirt of fuel go into the carb throat when you snap the throttle open. DO NOT LOOK AT THAT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING.
