i have a 110hp v4 johnson (1989). I have removed, AND CLEANED THE FUEL TANK . i CHANGED THE PICKUP TUBE AND ALL THE HOSES BETWEEN THE TANK AND THE MOTOR. I TOOK OUT THE ANTISIPHON VALVE. I PUT IN A NEW VRO PUMP AND PLUGS. I INSTALLED A NEW FUEL FILTER AND WATER SEPERATOR.PROBLEM : WHEN I GET TO ABOUT 3 GALS OF FUEL IN THE TANK , IT REFUSES TO ACCELERATE. (I EMPTIED OUT THE CARBS AS WELL. ) SHOULD THE BULB BE HARD AT ALL TIMES ? MINES ABOUT 1/2 WAY FULL IT SEEMS. I INSTALLED A LITTLE LONGER PICKUP TUBE IN HOPES THATS THE PROBLEM. WHEN I FILL UP THE TANK IT SEEMS TO BE OK AGAIN. LIKE I SAID , AFTER ABOUT 3 HOURS IT GETS DOWN TO ABOUT 3 GALS LEFT IN THE TANK(18 GAL TANK) AND THE PROBLEM IS THERE.I THINK IT WAS THE PICKUP TUBE NOT GETTING ENOUGH FUEL. WHAT DO YOU FOLKS THINK ? FRUSTRATED.....SKIP (TANKS  )

Re: bogs down on acceleration

It could be that a fuel pump rebuild would solve the problem, but I'm not sure I would waste much boating time if that is the only problem -- think I would run it on the top half of the tank, and maybe carry and extra 5 or 6 gallons in case I got down to the three-gallon point. In an 18 gallon tank, three gallons can slosh around out of reach of the pickup tube. On the bright side, it's not bad to avoid sucking up the sediment that builds up in the bottom of a permanent tank.

ALSO MY TRIM GAUGE STOPPED WORKING RECENTLY. BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WORKINGS OF THE MOTOR , CORRECT ? (IT IS JUST A FUSE I ASSUME)
