Re: bogs down

Sounds exactly like a carb/fuel problem. Have the carbs been cleaned and serviced ??? When it is bogging did you try to squeeze the primer bulb? Is your tank vented properly?

Re: bogs down

the tank is the new style Plastic tank, you screw the filler cap on till it clicks & thats it, so how does it vent ?? & then you have the 2 prong connection going to the fuel pump & no leaks anyplace,, the carbs have been taken apart & cleaned & blown out & the float & needle valve are working, by hand anyways,, no sign of sticking,, yes on the primer bulb & makes no difference at all & the fuel pump has been completely rebuilt too

Re: bogs down

Engine will require more fuel under load. Try fogging the car/s with fuel/oil mix and see if it improves. Have a timing light hooked up to see when this occurs if spark is breaking down. Post your results.

Re: bogs down

i did the timing light test that you are talking about & there is no break down at all,, if the fogging does work on the carbs, what does this mean & how do i fix it ???

Re: bogs down

Did you soak carb/s in carb cleaner? Did you remove any and all core welch plugs? were the high and low speed jets removed pryor to soak? Did you adjust floats? Were new carb kits installed? Post back results.

Re: bogs down

yes the carbs were soaked in carb cleaner & yes the high & low jets were removed prior to soaking. what are the core welch plugs?? no new carb kits were not installed because new jets dont come with new carb kits,, anyways not that i have found so far & the jets were put back in as tight as what they were,, bottomed out snug-tight,, couldn't tighten them anymore but did not crank them in

Re: bogs down

look at item # 5 core/welch plug. Trash gets hung up under there and it needs to be removed by drilling through plug just enough to pry it out with a pic or something!

Re: bogs down

Thats why were here!!! When you receive your new carb kits, core/welch plugs should be in there. You will have a few sizes and just use the one that fits. With dome side up, take a 3/8" extension and lightly smash core plug enough to cause it to expand. You can finish it off by sealing it with OMC sealant or as I do, use some of the Mrs. clear fingernail polish. Just so you know, under the plug and inside the carb where core plug fits, there are three or four small holes, careful not to drill in to far! Good luck and post yer results!

Re: bogs down

ok ty for this info,, it will be awhile before i can get the carb kits though as am low on money,, but when i get them, i will then take out the plugs in the carbs & clean that part as well,, but what i dont understand is why so much difference from out of water with earmuffs on,, to being in the actual water itself,, like i said it snaps right up when out of water but when in the lake BOGS like crazy,, by the way where is the best place to get carb kits for this motor at lowest price ???? 77 Johnson 75hp ,, 75ELR77S model number

Re: bogs down

Ok one other thing you can do is make sure that you have good hot spark. Your compression readings are real good if it was preformed correctly?! For sh*ts and giggles, I would make sure everything is working properly while waiting for carb kit/s! Post back your results!

Re: bogs down

Those core plugs hide the idle circuit capillaries. They won't make a whit of difference once the throttle is cracked open. If it's idling ok, that's not your problem.
