bolt behind trim tab anode

i finnaly got that sob of a trim tab off. now the allen bolt under that is super tight. im starting to mess up the allen head[but not bad] any tricks to getting it loose? already tried wd 40. how about heat? thanks ken

Heat is really your only real alternative. Also buy some better penetrating oil like Kroll or even PB Blaster. Heat it up and apply the penetrating oil, then let it cool. Try that several times.

tried some heat with torch, got head a little red, let the red go away then soaked with hopfully a better penatrating oil. did twice so far then tried impact driver but cant really get a good wack on that because of prop shaft. just going to keep repeating. thanks ken ps if the allen head happens to get destroyed i guess i will just drille it out.

A machinist friend of mine loaned me a set of his professional "screw extractors." They work great and would grab right into the damaged allen head.

yea i was thinking of getting one of those. i finally got it out. heat/ cool about 5 times. still took a 1/2 drive breaker bar to get it out, suprised to see threads were still good ... thanks ken

for those sticky situations i like using the impact gun on low..... on high it snaps bolts but on low alot of time the hammering action will spin the bolts out.
