Bolts for starter

I do not have enough arms and hands to place the bolts for the starter in place. 81 Merc GM 350/260 starter bolts. Does anyone know of a way to hold bolt so when I place the starter up to block then I can screw bolt into place. Had thought about using silicon glue to hold in place?????? Bolts go in through bottom bracket.

Put the bolts through the stater, wrap a small strip of masking tape (1/8 x 2") around the threads close to the starter. Leave the tape ends sticking out, will keep the bolts captive until you start the threads.

Another way is to put the bolts in and then put a rubber band around the heads of them to pull the heads toward each other. It puts enough pressure on them to keep them from falling out.

I just held the starter up to the motor with one hand and used the other to screw in the bolts part way with my fingers.

Then once they were started I put them the rest of the way in with a ratchet.

I tried holding starter and using other hand to no avail. Thanks for the other ideas and I will try each one of them.

Drop a small diameter rope or cord - between the exhaust
manifold and block, just behind the riser. Tie to end of
starter. While taking weight off starter with rope, push
nose into bell housing, a little up or down will hold in
place, and help start bolt with one hand.
If you have extra man on rope, its even easier.
Put anti-size on threads.
All the bolt hold ideas will work.

My plans were to use a strap of some type to hold the starter in place. Your idea will work and thanks. Will let you know how it works.
