Bomb-ba-deer remote control adjustment Help

When engaging my remote control (It?s a Bomb-ba-deer # 0174229 single lever, all mechanical, with separate dash mount key / choke knob) the throttle response does not engage until the lever has moved at least three inches or more before the engine RPM?s began to pick up. Is there an adjustment in the cable other than the one at the engine attachment point. This is currently adjusted full out, with all threads showing. When I do attempt adjustments at this point, the only direction I can move is inward and this slows down the motor to a point of stalling it out.

It controls a 1988 Johnson 28HP SPL.

Good point, about an 1.5 inches from neutral until it engages and another 2+ inches until the throttle picks up.

I never could get that name right, one I thing I have learned working for the past twenty years on 'Bomb bard dee yea' fist attempt at a Light Rail Transit Vehicle and that is too never disagree with a Canadian on how to pronounce the name?.. Most of them have been cursing that name longer than I have been walking?

My 1998 OMC control didn't behave much differently in that there was some lag before the throttle started moving. The important part is, is there enough travel to open the throttle fully?

Old(pre 1978) Mercury motor controls did nothing for about 5 inches after shifting and then all the action took place in 2 inches of movement!

What you are expeiencing is mostly due to the slack in the control cable inner wire, and is unavoidable. It is a fact of life in a push-pull cable. If the wire were to fit closely inside the cable it would be hard to operate and (mostly) hard to produce at a decent price.

The best you can do is avoid any unnecessary bends and clamp the cable every few feet if it is accessable.

My boat does it too.

What you say makes sense. I have a center steer counsel with the remote mounted on the right side. Counting the two sweeping bends at both points of attachment, my system has a total of 6 bends from start to finish. The cable bundle runs up the center of the boat, beneath the floor. I have bundled and tie-wrapped the throttle cable to the steering cable for most of its length.
