I am use to ski with my 15.5' boat having a 70hp behind. As the engin past away I am looking for other solutions.

Do you think a Sportster DI (130hp) 2005 would be powerfull enought to do slalom?

Thanks, Mart

Re: Bombardier Jet boat for ski

Hi there
My friend had a 1800 Seadoo (225 h..p)

He now runs a Nautique 221 Wake board.
Seedoo....
Nice boat...drank alot of gas..He would torpedo the boat underwater. (hit reverse) Would take him 7 min with 2 bulge pumps and a bucket to drain the thing.Almost sunk it once.

As for a ski boat..I am an agressive skier..(shortline). I could pull the boat over about 2 ft. with a real good tug(cut).
The Sportster is a lighter boat than the 1800.
It should have enough power for you.

So ...in saying that..If you are not a serious skier..It can be fun.

"Keep the curvy side down" :)
Cheers

Your boat with the 70 outboard is a better set up for skiing.
Better tracking for sure.

I've skiied behind both set ups...both will work, but neither is all that great and with about equal (but with different) issues.
My last boat was a '01 SeaDoo Sportster with a single 135hp. It would PULL a skiier, but you had to be on top of it...absolutely horrible speed control: 1 minute it would want to do 15 mph, you would add just a little throttle, and a few seconds later you'd notice you were going 45mph. I think this was due to the light weight/higher horsepower. Turning could be fun too if the skiier wasn't "cooperating". That being said, we skiied all the time behind it, and had a blast. Of course, now that I have a 19 footer with an i/o, things are much much easier on the driver.

My experience skiing behind a 1960 peterbourough mahogany wooden boat with a 70hp that goes like hell, and behind an alumacraft with a 90 hp on it, and then behind a supercharged 225 seadoo speedster this summer, is that the speedster was by FAR AND AWAY the best boat i have ever skied behind.

Im 5'10, 230, and they had to only half throttle it or it was going to literally rip my arms off. I clocked it max at 63 mph when i took it for a rip.

The biggest thing about the seadoo is that your not going to ever want to pull it up on shore cause it's fiberglass, and it has no steering unless your moving forward. Takes a few minutes to get used to but weeeeelllllll worth it for skiing.

I would vote seadoo for the skiing any day.

The other outboard prop boats were all sluggish in getting me out of the water.

thats my experience. ryan.
