Howdy, Torkmore.

You need a 20" (long) shaft engine for the 16'7" Whaler.

You can learn a lot about Whalers on www.continuouswave.com

It can get a bit rowdy there, but there is more knowledge of Boston Whalers there than anywhere else.

Good luck.
torkmore,

JB's right about the shaft length and continuouswave. Allot of Whaler knowledge there but they can turn on you. Proceed with caution.
I second that.

I still post on CW , unlike JB and maybe DJ? They are smarter then I

I'm "ryanwhaler" over there.

If your looking into repowering your whaler do a search on CW, the repower discussions for 17'whalers are endless.

Good luck.
They tend to ridicule newbies.

Ask an intellegent question and you will get intellegent answers. They can be VERY opinionated though.

Ryans advice is good. Look through the previous posts there. There is a great deal of info. on repowering.

JB has a great deal of experience with that size Whaler and others. I also have a fair amount of experience with that size.

That size Whaler is rated to 100 hp. It is a real hotrod at the hp level. A 70 hp is just about perfect in terms of weight and performance.
Thats right mine is maxed out at 115hp according to coast gaurd but I had a 90 on it and thats about all i'll go befor the transom tears off. It's at my dad's and I wasnt sure about the shaft length, so thanks
