Re: Bottom Pop-ups - What's Up?

I just had about 4 or 5, Husqvarna I think. I'm running Chrome with AdBlock and over the last several days I've been getting the bottom pop from time to time. Usually about a half dozen on consecutive screen changes and then it goes away. A couple of weeks ago when some were complaining here, I turned AdBlock off for about a week to see what would happen. After a week or so I suddenly started getting them so I turned AdBlock back on but it didn't seem to have any effect then and hasn't since. Doesn't upset me as much as some.

The bottom ad is displaying because your web browser (pc's hard drive) has a cached cookie that is known as a "remarketing cookie".

If you've visited say a Cheby site, they will tag your browser with a cookie so they can later "remarket" to you on sites that have this form of Google Advertising integreated with there website. Clearly ib chooses to remarket which is fine by me and almost everyone is doing this nowadays.

I know all of this because I am the Quality Control dude for an online ad agency...I make sure that you get that cookie on your hard drive so you see that ad.

Get rid of the ads.....kthanks.

Perhaps if you paid iboat the money lost by not having those ads, they would get rid of them.

Somehow iboats has to generate money in order to provide you with this FREE site so you can get free information.

same story over and over again, people don't know how to set up their browser, then they blame the website they visit for free. It is really to bad that after all of these years, people don't realize, great websites don't run for free, you have to have income someway or another.

I say again, I have NEVER had an ad on my browser from IBoats in the years I have been a member, I have always used Firefox because I detest IE of any version, the current Firefox with the proper plugins works fine.

Having Firefox won't fix it. I have it and Chrome and it came up on both.

Korygrandy's heads up is what's going on. On both browsers I cleared the cache and the cookies and browsing history and problem gone.

Like he said, these are remarketing cookies so if you don't go to a site that sets them, you won't see anything here. Additionally, if you clear your cache, cookies and browsing history after having been to a site that sets remarketing cookies, you won't see the bottom popups here either.

Thank you for the heads up korygrandy.

I have not seen them in a long time but today they are back. Very annoying.
The 'I do not want to be tracked' is on the PRIVACY tab and it does not stop them.

A pop up Ad is not going to sway me into buying that product. If I want it, I'll shop for it. Wonder if it's working for them as opposed to what it cost them ??? Just saying...

You are just one person out of the thousands that visit this site daily.
I would have to believe that if those ads weren't making money for iboats, they sure wouldn't be using them. Probably something the ad people keep a close eye on.

I'm sure iBoats is being paid for the Ads and making money, my statement was for the 3rd partys that run the Ads, like the popup for Yamaha Motorcycle 4 wheelers, geez, whats that got to do with boating. But hey, what ever floats your boat. lol
