Hi i pulled my plugs today and noticed number 5 & 6 were really clean compared to the rest. What would cause this bottom carb need tore down? Is it running to lean? any ideas 1970 merc 115 motor sounds ok and compression is 125
If it seems to run ok, but the plug looks brand new, you have water intrusion that will cuse you to loose the engine if allowed to go to long.
The water causes the spark plugs to be steam cleaned. NOT GOOD
I put 6 new plugs in I have the old ones here that i can take a picture of but i do not know how to post the picture plugs 1 & 2 are totaly carboned plugs 3 & 4 are carboned somewhat and 5 looks like 3&4 but 6 the center is cleaner then the rest
Before everone goes into a panic, I'll note that the bottom plugs (particularly #6) often look cleaner than the rest - with NO water intrusion at all. Seems they are "close to the steam" and just the act of shutting down the outboard can let steam back into the exhaust ports before it cools off. So long as the bottom carb is clean - I wouldn't worry.

Just to be sure you're not runnin' dry pull the plug wires on 5 then 6 to see if it's hittin' on those cylinders. It will tell you right away if it's running on those cylinders by creating a miss. Plus that bottom carb will collect all the crap in the float bowl causing the float to stick.
Hey just a thought... when was the last time the carbs were cleaned?
not sure when the carbs were rebuilt. I am taking it to marina UHHGGG let him give it a look over. It doesn't sound like it is missing or anything. But i have noticed that after running it all 3 carbs are wet on the outside. Maybe they need rebuilt ill repost after i see what he says thanks everyone
