Seller sold it before I could even meet his reserve, not even a full day later. Oh well the search continues......

Well then, it's best it's gone.

Give it time. One WILL come your way.

I was considering a distance purchase and found by Googling Marine Surveyors, I had some companies in the area I was looking. I e-mailed them in advance to be sure they were good with the idea. I'd pay for a survey in advance with a quick turn around.

I was comfortable with that.
I had a coupe sellers pass on that "pre-purchase" condition, even when it meant I'd pay for the guy to go OUT to the BOAT. Whew ~ so much risk.

Ended up finding one about 40 miles from me, so we'll do the deal in person with him bringing the boat here to our lake ~ leaving it there for me to bring home on the canal. ;) Too cool.

Take your time and get it right. You'd have more trouble getting RID of a lemon than it's worth to take a chance.

that boat had full eyesenglass enclosure.....probably abut $2000 just in canvas for that alone.....it looked like a good boat, but if it was in such great condition, why is the only wheel pictured rusted out? better off getting a boat you can check out personally than buying something far away just to do it in a rush.

No offense, but with your lack of knowledge you really do need an opinion from a reputable person in the business. My problem is I'm too honest. If I bought a clunker there is no way I could sell it to someone knowing they were going to have to spend a lot of money to get the thing right so I would be stuck with it.

Oh well I don't have 6 grand for a boat anyway. Don't dispair you are in a buyers market for one and the worst part of the season to sell a boat number two. Keep looking and you may find the boat of your choice with a much better value for the cost.

PS: Did you think about lowering size etc and going with a new rig?

Luck in your search ya'll

I would not sacrifice total length to buy new. I really capped my money at 5k but was talked into four winns for their quality. I liked that boat, but it is no longer.

Lake Erie can get bad, and a small open bow would be too iffy for me. A cudy is OK. A 20' is all around a good size. Not too big and not too cramped for space.

I think maybe the correct perspective for one who is shopping used, who knows little or nothing about a boat, should assume that the person selling it also knew little or nothing when he bought it and may have learned little or nothing about boats while he owned it. I chuckled when I wrote this...does it make sense?
