Hey guys. I have a 1990 Sea Ray 280 sundancer. It has twin merc 5.7 V8's 260 hp.
I just had the engines redone. The boat came with 2 RH rotation outdrives and engines.
I was told by mercaftermarkets I just needed a counter rotating outdrive and LH prop to change the port side to. So I have the new CR outdrive SE106 bolted up to the port side of the boat. My problem is when I put the shifter at the helm in foward they outdrive goes into reverse and visa versa. I just pulled the lower off the new outdrive to see if I hooked everything up right. and it seems the shift shaft only goes in 1 direction. Is there more that's needed to change a RH rotation outdrive to a CR outdrive other than changing the drive?

Bond-o thanks for the reply. What needs to be done? just have to reverse something on the controller? or I need to buy a different part? I'm still new to boating but mechanicaly inclined. I bought this boat a couple months ago. Haven't splashed it yet. Just getting all my peas in the pod before I do.

Ayuh,... every controller I've ever seen can push, or pull per each stroke...

Yep that did the trick. Had never had one apart so I was ginger with getting the controls out and opened up. But sure enough I just switched sides to where it was, to where it needed to be and voila. everything works. (Note to anyone else doing this. You'll need to put the shifter in reverse on a CR setup to put the CR outdrive back on or off.)

Now to start degreasing everything as I got it a mess when I was doing gimbals and re-aligning everything. Can't wait to splash it!
