Re: bought a new tach

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that tach will not work. It is made for an inboard motor.

You need to find a 20 pole tach for your motor.
There are a few still being made.

Teleflex 53743p $62-$114, depending on where you buy it.
Medallion #DJ1STK19720 , $40
Faria #DD2TC9819A , $40
google them

I believe OMC stands for Outboard Marine Corporation (now defunct) and USM stands for US Marine (again I believe now defunct).
Roscoe is right the tach you have will only work with 4 cycle inboard/outboard engines and not a 2 cycle outboard.:(
You will need a 20 pole (outboard) tach.:)
Check Ebay or Iboats....lots out there.
Good Luck

Re: bought a new tach

My experience with Faria tachs has not been positive. Of the two units I have dealt with, with my Force, are also the two units that stopped working. Both never gave a stable reading below 1200 rpm and both stopped working with very little hours on them. But hey...for 25 bucks I think I spent on eBay for each of them I can't complain nor can I hold Faria responsible and say they make a shoddy product as I have never purchased one brand new. Just lettin ya know.
