Go to Lowe's or the Depot of Home and get some adhesive remover like goof off and get yourself a plastic putty knife and scrape it off.....

Read and follow label directions on the adhesive remover, can be nasty stuff.

Don't sand it, the adhesive will clog the paper instantly and render it usless. As mentioned some adhesive remover may work, do it outside wear rubber gloves and glasses it can be nasty stuff. Some things can be removed with plain ole wd-40 and a scraper it is much less caustic than some of the other stuff. What ever you use let it sit on ther for a bit to break the glue down, have a old cardboard shoe box or the like to scrape all of the old glue into. Good luck, maybe you can call my wife and tell her I want a fishing boat too....

don't know about the glue... DO know your husband is a lucky man... my wife has never bought me a boat.... but we have reached a happy medium... I buy (another) boat... she rolls her eyes and asks how many more do we need. I had been saying that each new-to-me boat was to fill some niche roll. e.g. strictly for fishing... or will be the "tubing boat"... My last answer not to get too excited.... I still want to try a pontoon sometime...

I would get some xylene or MEK and see if it will dissolve the glue. Fill bucket partially with solvent, soak paper towels in it, apply soaked paper towel to the glue and let it sit, check in 10 minutes to see if the glue is loosened and let it sit longer if needed. You HAVE TO use rubber (latex, nitrile) gloves and a respirator when using this stuff, both of which can be purchased at Harbor Freight for $30-40, buy a box of 100 gloves as they don't last too long in the solvent. I doubled them up and replaced the top glove when it shredded. Home Depot and Lowes have these supplies too, but are more expensive.

If you want to make it really nice, build 1/2" plywood deck panels and then cover them with; carpet, anti-skid paint, marine vinyl flooring, etc. Plywood decks feel sturdier when walked on than the thin aluminum hull. Don't know if this is too much of a project as the deck panels need to fit between the seat bulkheads and also should have some ribs attached to their bottoms so the boat's aluminum ribs are not the only thing supporting the decks, makes the decks firmer.

I would look into something other than carpet to cover the boat's interior since carpet can trap moisture and fish gunk, not easy to clean. You can paint the deck and sprinkle sand onto the fresh paint to make it anti-skid, followed up by vacuuming the excess sand and another top coat of paint. There are also premade anti-skid coatings available, Herculiner, DuraBak, etc. Don't choose a dark color as they can get hot.

Wow you are a real catch;)(pun intended) As already noted your husband is a lucky man.

Is he going to be helping out at all restoring her or is that part of the gift?

Have fun with the boat and try to catch some fish on that thing will ya!

Seriously, i think you could make some good money just charging all the men on here like $50 to call their wives and get them in the same mindset as you... i for one would pay it... :D

First off, I'd like to say your a good woman! My wife first pushed me to fix the boat, and now it's the Harley.:D
Goof Off is great stuff, smells bad, works good. Please listen to what everyone said...... gloves, mask, eye protection. Work a small area at a time.
Have fun fishing!
