This is probably a silly question, but curiosity has gotten the better of me. What is the technical reason for not using a primer bulb on an I/O? Have heard and read not the do it, but never knew exactly why not?

Besides being illegal and against any USCG regulations, the primer bulb would be in an enclosed space so that any possible rupture or leak would cause fuel to spill in the enclosed bilge area. In an outboard situation the primer bulb is never in an enclosed bilge area.

My bet is you haven't looked at too many bass boats lately. Lots of them have the primer under the back deck in front of the motor well.

Not an enclosed bilge area. Also no source of ignition like an I/O bilge.

Dudes!!!! You hijacked my post. It ain't about a primer bulb and whoever suggested it in the first place (Stachi) should have kept quiet b/c we all know it don't have one....IT'S AN I/O VOLVO PENTA!!!

You could just change the title to "Primer Bulb on an I/O" but that would mean you hijacked your own thread on your first post. :)
