Re: bout to add another thousand

It's really simple. Theives can do it in less then a minute.

Shift into forward.

Unbolt the trim cylinders at the drive end. (My preference)

Unbolt the 6 bolts.

Have a friend help you maneuver it off.

Don't use wedges in the mating surfaces if it's difficult.

In the "Adults Only" section, you can find the manuals.

You should be able to turn the input shaft by hand.. turn the shifter foot and turn the drive shaft.

As for the engine you can turn it over and start it if you put a water supply to the engine.

I used an old garden hose and cut the end off and shoved it in the water intake in the gimbal housing...

Its pretty difficult to turn a drive over by hand-just by grabbing the shaft and turning. You can tell if its in gear by spinning the prop, in nuetral it spins freely. In forward the prop will lock up if spun CCW and ratchet spinning CW In reverse it will lock up if the prop is spun CW and ratchet if spun CCW. Also you can look at the position of the shift shaft on the front of the drive The little brass foot looking thing sticking up out of your lower unit just under the exhaust bellow connection. Looking down from the top 1200 oclock position is forward 1100 is nuetral and 1000 reverse [approx]. I think you can start the engine -Just for a second or two !!! as you have no water supply going to the engine

Time to check gear oil for metal Also you can take the cover of the drive The 4 bolts on top of the drive. Need a 12 point socket and work the cover off. It may take a little finesse to remove Try not to **** it There is a bearing and a race connected You can then inspect the gears in the upper unit

Couldn't turn the Upper unit (Ujoints) or lower unit (propshaft)? You can remove the top can off the upper to see what the gears look like. If the drive was run low on fluid that's where I'd expect the damage.

I guess your title was forecasting your situation.
Around here, people sometimes ask as much for used one as a new SEI unit.
Mine makes a little noise, and I had already made my mind up to get a SEI when/if the time comes.

While it's apart, you might replace the gimble bearing and do replace the bellows, just to prevent a failure later.

Offer it with an SEI lower unit, add in the $1200 cost of the lower then you are selling a runner. I love Pachangas. Beautiful speed shaped hull with Sea Ray heritage and quality.

Re: bout to add another thousand

i found a hole lower unit on craigslist for 300 he wanted 5 but i talked him down to 3 i want to fix it but just really dont have the money then i would have to get 1800 out of the boat in order to make any money. in a few more months it will be to cold to go out on the water and trying to sale a boat in the winter is very hard to do... i think.
