can someone tell me the proper dimensions of the bow hatch on a sport 15? the boat i purchesed did not come with one. i am thinking of using non-slip starboard or just might go with the mahagony plywood.

Sure, Markho.

It is raining right now, but I will measure it for you and post the dimensions and a pic.

Hey JB, thanks in advance! I was hoping you would reply. I have been looking at starboard and mahgony plywood. it seems that starboard is cheaper online. What would you suggest?

Re: Bow hatch dimensions

When I got my Striper it had a CDX locker cover, Markho. I found a mahogany ply cover for sale on continuouswave. Othrwise I would have made one.

The dimensions, before rounding the corners, are:
Small end: 16.5"
Big end: 28.75"
Sides: 24.5"

The corners on the small end are radiused at 1"
The corners on the big end are radiused at .5"

Sorry, no pic. It is too big.

I appreciate that big time! that's great info. I was looking online for mahagony plywood and could only find 4x8 sheets, and that's more than i need and a waste of good wood and money.

You know, I think a Montauk cover would work. They are solid teak though, and it probably wouldn't match any mahogany you had for the seats, etc.

while we are on topic, what would you rather have a wood or a starboard material as a bow hatch? I'm kind of leaning on starboard for easy maintenence. i plan on that surface getting alot of use with fishing. I know that starboard comes in non slip material.

I prefer the mahogany, Markho.

You can't get Starboard to match the "desert tan" of the Whaler gelcoat and white starboard wouldn't look right to me.

Re: Bow hatch dimensions

Post a "wanted" in continuouswave's Marketplace for a cover. You can probably get a used one that only needs to be refinished. That's what I did. $30.
