I may have the wrong terminology but the hook on the keel of the boat in the front (where you hook the rope from your trailer to secure the boat) is loose, and im afraid of water seeping through the crack... How should I go about fixing this and how serious of a problem is this? thanks.

Not really serious at all unless the area around the eye is cracked or weak. There should be bolts that are accessible from the inside. Inspect these. If they are rusted go get a new bow eye. You can get a new one made out of stainless steel for between $10-$30. If the old one is still in good shape take it out anyway. Once you remove the nuts the eye should pull out from the outside. Clean up the area on both sides and fill the holes with 3m 4200 sealant (you can get this in the boat section at WalMart.) Don't get 5200 or you'll have to jack-hammer it back out.

Then reinsert the eye and tighten, then wipe off any excess sealant that oozes out.

Also make sure that the bow eye has either washers or a plate on both sides of the hull.

Not a huge problem. You should be able to access the back of the hook and the nuts that hold on the backside plate. Remove the nuts and the plate and knock out the hook. Clean up the inside surface and remount it with high strength filler or bedding epoxy.

Great minds think alike.

I don't think it is a BIG problem but one that ought to be addressed. Depending on how far down the bow the eyelet is you could get some small amount of water thru the hole.

The more important thing is that it is essentially a loose bolt. Loose bolts break easily. I would crawl up forward, remove the nut and try to determine if the hole has been enlarged. If not I would try to fashion a hardwood or metal backing block, reinstall the stud and locktite it before you tighten.

If the hole in the glass is already enlarged, I would make up a small batch of epoxy peanut butter, fill around the stud, place your backing block and tighten the nut. Be sure to wipe off any resin that squeezes out the front.
