I have a 2008 Sea Ray open bow runabout. I really want to install a trolling motor. Bow mount seems the right way to go, but I have an issue with mounting it. My Anker Locker is up front (see picture below). I was thinking of getting a Minn Kota with a quick release mount. Though, I don't know how I can accomplish this.

Any suggestions?

It looks like the only space to mount the trolling motor is to mount it along the side of the HUGE anchor locker. Make sure you buy a removable mount so you won't have the trolling motor mounted there when you don't plan to use it. You can build up the mounts along the side to make it fit right. It will require a custom mounting stands, but they're easy to make yourself.

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking that the sides are the only way and that I would have to build something custom. I have searched everywhere and I can't find the specs on the Minn Kota mounting plate (quick release/removable mount).

Do you know of any examples of creating a custom mount platform on the side like I would need todo? Hopefully I am not the first to try this.

I am not sure if you are saying that my boat is difficult and you need advice on this one because it's a difficult one? Or are you saying I should go to your site for advice as you have done several hundred installs. Either way I appreciate your feedback/help.

P.S. I went to your site and couldn't find any information.

Since you dont have a mount...you must build one, on your boat its not flat, there are several ways to over come this. starboard works and looks great, aluminum bracket but it would take more fab time, 50-60 inch shaft length its a deep v boat, 6 gauge wire, 50-60 amp resetable breaker, batt box, terminal covers, removable trolling motor plug. since im working on my site right now if you would signed my guess book i could have shot you a few more pics and details. i tend to do more tournament boats so thats what i focus on

Thanks Bassboattech. I signed your guest book.

What I would really like to-do is build a custom mount on the right side (looking at my picture above) just past the anker locker. Though, it's not very wide... I assume I will have to have posts that come up about 1/2-1 inch, which will hold the starboard mount. Though, I only see enough room for a vertical line of bolt-posts. I feel that it would give great vertical rigidity, but not horizontal. Any advice?

If anyone has pictures of their custom built mounts, I would really appreciate pictures of them.

Re: Bow Mount Help/Suggestions

ive looked at your pic and the locker up front will either have to be hinged in the middle or make a new one out of starboard also, the front shaft of the trolling motor has to be as close to the nose as poss to pull and turn the boat effectively. im digging through pics right now...i just did a install with minnkota removable mount on a ski natique
