Hey guys,

I just picked up a used bow mount motorguide for my grandpa's john boat. I need some help figuring out the best way to mount this. The boat already has an aluminum deck up front to mount to. The problem is, there is no underneath access for the deck, so through bolts are out. What would be the best way to securely attach this motor? I don't want it to end up as bass cover in the lake.

Go to your local hardware store, (one that actually has people that know what you are talking about), and tell them what you are doing. Im really not sure what they are called, but "Blind nuts", comes to mind, they are rubber and expand when you install the bolt, they offer a decent amount of cussioning also and they work great. The bigger the stronger but the bigger the holes you have to drill in your boat

Motorguide sells a product for your situation. They are called Mounting Isolators. The part # is MGA015PB6.
They sell them right here on iboats. http://iboats.com/mall/index.cgi?ke...=916163404&search_in_category=f&view_id=39218

They also sell them at basspro for a little less money.

If you search the part number I gave you. You will find many places that sell them.

I have no clue if they hold well or not? Maybe someone else has had experience with them? They may not hold when used in thin aluminum. I think they were designed for fiberglass or thicker material.
Jay

Re: Bow mount trolling motor install help

Thanks guys, after trying to find a place to mount it, we found that the gunwales are acutally about 5" higher than the deck I was planning on mounting it to. So now I have to either find someone to weld a bracket high enough to clear the gunwales or find someother solution for it.

I too have a deck lower than the gunwale so I used two pieces of tube as spacers to hold the back end of the trolling motor. Works a treat.
