Bow Not Snug on Roller

Hello-
I have a 2004 Zieman Trailer with a 23ft total length including swimdeck boat. I crank the boat all the way up to roller and it does not rest on it? I moved the entire Roller unit back about an inch by loosening bolts on U bracket but still will not rest on roller. It is as far back as possible as the eye in bow and the clasp have just enough room. It is almost like the bow sits just a 1" too high?

Is there a bigger diameter roller I could get? Any other solutions?

Sorry about the low quality pic. This looks like it rides on roller? Maybe got worse over time?

Thanks

Need a better pic
but

without seeing there should be a metal roller between the winch and the bow roller
the metal winch should be about an inch lower than the bow roller
make sure that the strap runs under the metal roller

Look like there is no adjustment in that setup. I'd look for a different winch post.

There is nothing wrong with the winch post
He just needs to run the strap under the metel roller between the bow roller and the winch
If there is not a metel roller there go to west marine and buy one and install it
cheap fix

Re: Bow Not Snug on Roller

Its the stile of bow stand
He can also let out the strap and reel it back in in the same direction that he reeled it out
allowing the strap to come out of the winch from below not above
that will give him about 4 more inches that might or might not give him enough down pressure

The metel roller is between the winch and the bow roller lower than the bow roller
allowing the strap to go down from the wintch under the metel roller then back up to the bow eye
giving you down pressure instead of the upward pressure that he has now

some people would think that it is just a brace because it looks like it is sructual

Still haven't seen one like that and from what I see in the picture the one in question doesn't have a metal roller either.

Well the OP hasn't responded in 4 days so I guess it really makes no difference.

At 58 and living around the water and boats my whole life and having never seen one I would guess they are not very common.

Hi thanks for all the replies. Sorry I have been out of pocket the past few days. My problem is my boat is over at my property and I am not going over again until Aug 4th. I will definitely take a few better pics and post them as well as trying a few of your solutions. I really do appreciate the passion of this forum. Talk soon!

Re: Bow Not Snug on Roller

Hello! Finally back from vacation and as promised, here are better pictures. Hopefully these will help. I have not tried unreeling and re-reeling so strap comnes out below and not above , but that sounds like it is worth a shot. Thanks again for patience and your responsesBoatRoller.jpgBoatRoller1.jpgBoatRoller2.jpg

Looks like the strap hook is binding on the roller. You could try a larger diameter roller but i think it would do the same thing. I think the incoming strap angle needs to change... like wrap under the winch like mentioned earlier. It might chafe on the brackets under the roller so watch for that.

Yes- the hook is binding because I moved the winch post forward about an 1" or so, hoping that would solve the problem. I agree, it has something to do with the strap angle. When I head gback over I will mess with it. Thanks

Re: Bow Not Snug on Roller

Move the strap so it comes out under the roller instead of over the top.
Then you might need to replace roller with a smaller one Getting a bigger one just makes it even farther away.

All you have to do is run the strap under the brace below the roller
that will fix your problem

Looks like a bolt and spacer. As long as it does the trick... thats cool.

Yep! Thats about all it is!

The bolt has a Jamb Nut on it, so it is not tight and clamping the side plates against the spacer.
I put some grease on the bolt shaft. (Why doesn't the manufacturer do that!?)
When the strap is pulling a good load, the spacer sometimes actually rolls! :D

Don't think I'd want to be pulling againt that when I'm using the tilt on my trailer and winching the boat all the way on. Would have to put a great strain on the winch and the strap.
