Made a pattern on plywood for the shape but would like to know the trick to bending the 7/8" aluminium rail to match the pattern............ Done a good amount of restorations but never have attempted to do the rails myself......

Thanks - Don

Re: Bow rails

i think with the cost of the material, i'd seek out a person who does wrought iron railings in you area, they are accustomed to bending almost any metal, and have the equipment. just the right amount of force in the wrong place and it will kink.

Re: Bow rails

The only problem is that I need to have a compound bend...........Up 4 inches at a 30 degree angle to 36 inches straight then it needs to curve around the side of the bow following the gunnwale curve.............I ended up with a piece of spaghetti...........

that's why i suggested a wrought iron person, they are use to doing compound curves on stairs and railings.
