Re: Bowriders with super low seats!

Well to all those whose seats are too low, buy new ones and install them! Makes a huge difference! Can someone post a picture of the flip up bolster you guys are talking about?

I love the height on mine(walmart.com seats ftw), very very comfortable and you can be in the wind or behind the windshield depending on how you sit

Wise boat seats. So far not too bad really.

And just so you know, these seats are typically about $1500 for a set. So simply changing them out isnt as easy for most as are the folding lounger style. You cant simply go to Gander Mountain and buy a set. The really nice pedestals arent exactly cheap either.

Hey mpdrive,

Where did you get your new seat. I have a Stingray also, and my seat is too. Thanks

It is a Garelick pedestal. I called Stingray and asked them what manufacturers seat hardware they used and they told me Garelick exclusively. Look around real good for the best price for the pedestal. I paid under a hundred for mine. Lot cheaper than a bolster and took 10 minutes to swap out the tube. I did the same thing as the one poster as far as standing up and sitting on the seat back. Not any more. Now I ride in style. If you need any more help feel free to let me know.

Make sure you get an adjustable pin and not the friction. I dont trust the friction type.

Wow. You have to pay $1500 to fix a design defect. I wouldn't be too happy about that unless I was restoring a project boat without usable seats in the first place.

Here is an even cheaper route. Just figure out how much higher you want to sit and order the corresponding pedestal. These are fixed height.

Because these are OEM it is a direct bolt up on the flange. No new holes and no screwing around. Unscrew the old one and screw in the new one using existing hole pattern.

No, the bolster seats are expensive, but as far as I can tell are an option in just about every new boat on the market right now. BUT if you were to go try to buy them new they are way up there. You dont need bolster seats. You can just get a new pedestal to solve the low seat issue. In my Tahoe, I just bought used Regal bolster seats and a new pedestal for the driver side. I figured the passenger side could be short til I got around to replacing it.

My seats were shot from the previous owner's neglect, so it was actually cheaper to buy the used Regal bolter seats and new pedestal than it was to re-upholster the existing seats. New boat has them already, and tall adjustable pedestals.

Re: Bowriders with super low seats!

Mine has the lounge style seats (similar to saxrules photo), and they are a little low. I find myself sitting up on a knee for certain types of driving, but honestly up on plane they're just fine. They're not as low as some have mentioned, but not up like a pedestal seat would be.

I've found that I like the layout with the lounges better on my boat, but I can see many other designs where I know I'd like the captain's chairs better.

Wow, those are suspension seats too, I've been contemplating replacing my old seats with something with a bolster. I stand up most of the time anyway, but my seat height is perfect if I need to sit and duck to get behind the windscreen, wonder if I can use my existing pedestals?

I like that height, but I already know that my gunwhales and windshield are not as high as yours. I am going to have to really think about a new seat configuration.

My old 1991 sea ray 170 had dual back to back seats. I hated it, and would either sit on the back of it or stand. The new boat has a pedestal for the drivers seat, so im hoping its more user friendly. It doesnt have a flip up though, so i may see about replacing it with one that does.

Back when I replaced my seats 5 or so years ago, I couldnt find anything like that. Nice. I guess with more and more boats using this style bolster seat, the aftermarket is finally catching up.

They have been around for a long time through Overtons. I used some of them in 2004, price was about the same then.

Never found them. But then again I did stop looking when I found the Regal seats on CL for considerably less in perfect condition.

I like looking just over the windshield in my 2000 seaswirl 175. I run it on lakes and the delta in our area and need good visibility to spot floating stuff and those annoying jetskiers. My easy and cheap fix is to wedge one of those square throwable floatations devices in the seat. :)
