Boyesen Power Reeds

Anybody had any experience with Boyesen power reeds... I checked out their website at www.boyesen.com and ordered a set of reeds for my 1987 evinrude 70 hp outboard... My engine runs great, but when i recently rebuilt it, I saw one reed was sagging, and i could see a gap.. it was not sealed... I had a good read about reed function in the 2 cycle engine, and it made sense to me to order a set...<br /><br />Kind of wondering if I am wasting my time though, as the motor never takes more that 1 sec to start, and revs to 5300rpm on my 14.5 foot runabout... (48mph) burns 3gal/hr at 4000rmp (32mph)

And get those rpm's up! Luggin it like that may have had something to do with why it had to be rebuilt.<br /><br />You'll love the reeds. Good luck!

Ditto Dhadley. You are lugging it. Those triples do not like that.<br /><br />I would drop at least two inches in prop pitch.

By the way, by prop is a 13.somthin dia, 3 blade with 19 pitch.... It was siezed when I bought it, and i bored out the center hole .30 over, and put a new wiesco piston in... the other two holes were just honed out, and put in new rings on those two... Was thinkin maybe the tri carb setup should be calibrated, but I heard that was a real art...

I looked at some of the pics but didnt see any that shaowed the actual set up (prop and prop height etc). I would raise the motor and see where that puts the rpms. A prop change may be necessary but lets take the "dont spend money yet" route first. We want to target 5900 with your average load.<br /><br />Good luck!
