I know I posted this earlier, but I am desperate now.

My 1990 Evinrude VRO 70 hp dies completely.
sometimes it will run for hour, but if i give it a short rest it will cit out completely when I power up. No warning horns, oil getting through. it is almost like a complete fuel starvation, but pumping bulb does nothing. Any ideas.

Just it running on the trailer. Great. Fuel bulb goes soft when running, is this right.

I need you guys to help me !! If I take it tothe shop my wife will question my undoubtable mechanical skills. i might as well start wearing a dress if I can't sort this thing

Well, Philby, I can't let you start wearing a dress, but I have no idea what is wrong. Perhaps if you find a different way of explaining what happens it could trigger an idea. For example, can you be more specific in what you mean by "giving it a rest"?

Standing by...
JB :)

It sounds like a matter of pride, and I can relate.
But I would buy, borrow or rent a compression gauge. Run the engine till warm, then run a hot compression test. My only guess is you have low compression,a bad coil (opening up when hot),or bad or wrong type plugs.
But compression first.Because without proper compression, the fuel pump wont werk right, or the engine wont have enough vaccum to draw fuel.

The fuel bulb will not stay "rock hard" when the motor is running. It should however, become firm with just a few squeezes. If it takes several times to get it there then you should try replacing the fuel line from the tank to the motor including a new fuel bulb. If that doesn't do the trick check for any loose lines or cracks. Pending that the VRO could also be wearing out or you could have an electrical component breaking down. Send more info.

What may be happening is that the fuel in the bowl, carb or fuel line is becoming overheated, almost boiling=vapor lock or no solid fuel, after you let engine sit awhile, fuel returns to liquid state and engine will re-start.I learned that from Bombardier hotline, my 99 Johnson 60hp does it(won't immediately restart after running it for awhile) You'll need to reroute fuel line or have dealer check for TSB's on that engine for a fix.
