Single stage or dual stage Boysen Reeds? Which would give the best results in a 1989 125hp Force? Are there any other things that need to be changed along with changing reeds?
I understand Boysen reeds raise the rpm a little, any concern there in an older motor?
I would mostly be interested in smooth idle, and getting on plain quicker!
Is the cost to change them on an older motor like mine with few hours, worth maybe considering someday? Thanks!

Some of the guys over at The Chrysler Crew use them on their old Chryslers and like them. Last time I checked, there was no choice between single or dual stage for Force engines. That was about 5 years ago and they cost 125 then--undoubtably higher now. They are supposed to be more responsive and let the engine develop more horsepower, AND they (Boyeson) claim that you should go one jet size richer.

I have seen them on an Evinrude I rebuilt and I was NOT impressed. That actually influenced my decision not to try them.

However, being plastic reeds, they do have one tremendous advantage: if they break and the engine eats one, no damage will be done.

How is jet size determined anyway? Thanks

The improved idle does sound attractive!
