Thanks for all your help on kicker motor size posted a few days ago. That was my first post on your board and I must say all of you are very helpful. I appreciate that. THANKS!

Based upon your suggestions, I am looking for a Johnson or Evenrude engine in the 5-10 hp range with the larger sizes being favored for my 19 foot glass boat with 1/0. Plan to troll with it more than anything.

I have three more questions if I may. First I been looking on Ebay for a motor and mounting bracket. They have several motor mounting brackets listed for kickers. The brands are Fulton, Spar, Garelick and OMC. Any real preferences?

Next as was suggested I plan to tie the Mercruiser to the kicker to steer from the driver's seat. Any preferences in kind and source of a steering linkage?

Lastly, has anyone purchased or had shipped an engine from Ebay as a source? Shipping costs $50 to $150 depending upon seller and they use UPS, FedEX or Greyhound (I thought Greyhound went out of business?). I am concerned the engine my not make the trip well in shipping.

Thanks,
McPhee

I would recomend a heavy duty bracket, the weaker brackets get jammed when you forget to raise them and hit full power with the bigger engine  .

I will get you a link in a second.

I bought a 9.9 on ebay and was shipped UPS. What a disaster. Motor arrived looking like it was dropped off the loading dock. Dealing with UPS over damages was a nightmare. I don't know if other carriers better , but from my experience I would avoid UPS

Buy a kicker bracket that will handle twice the weight of your motor. I feel most are way over rated. For My 15HP Johnson I used 2 Garelick brackets and hooked them together. Both were rated to handle motor up 20HP. Having the 2 hooked together took all the side to side movement out of the bracket when trailering.

I used an EZ Steer to connect kicker to my I/O and it works great. Before you do it you may want to see if your I/O has power steering and if it does, can you turn the outdrive without the motor turning the power steering pump.
