I have only done this flawlessly approx 30 times.Removed my alpha drive yesterday and cant believe I forgot to put shifter in full fwd.The drive came off easily as it always does.So I am assuming it is only critical to have it in full fwd when installing and when removing not critical.?? Charlie

I've done the same once. No damage to the shift linkage in my case. But that was the first and last time I made the error. Some of the shift linkage is being stressed when you force the foot. So I'd try to remember to shift to FWD from now on.

Did that myself. The shoe looked OK, re-assembled the drive, wouldn't shift correctly. A new shoe fixed it, the bend was real small couldn't really see it.

On or off the drive needs to be in forward so the the shift shaft will slide in or out of the shoe in the bell housing. You may have gotten lucky. it’s easy to have a brain fart in the heat of battle, I’ve come close to making that mistake myself.

Since the drive came off as easy as it did ,I am hoping nothing was damaged.I over grease everything when installing the drive so it always comes off easy.Charlie
