The brake spring pliers that I have has a semicircular notch on the end of one handle. The spring loop that fastens on the anchor post, is positioned on the handle and the notch on the end of the handle engauges the anchor post. The pliers is pivoted on the anchor such that the spring slides down the handle and over the anchor post. Sort of like using a shoe horn. A little lube on the handle helps.
