Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section but I'm new to this forum. I found a mint condition Ted Williams 7.5HP motor (air cooled?) in my mother Inlaws attic. It looks like Its been there since 1982 with very few hours on it before that.It has the original sears gas tank that looks brand new inside (I just put on a new rubber hose). Can someone tell me if there is any value at all on this motor? I have no use for it but was thinking mixing up a gallon of gas just to fire this thing up. Thoughts anyone ?Thanks,Dave 847-459-5421

Sure, there's value in it. If you can get it started, and it runs OK, you should be able to get from $150-200 for it, given its low hours.

It needs to run with the gearcase in water, or you'll burn out the water pump.

They're not a sought-after motor. I'd say that price range is pretty much on target. In pristine cosmetic shape, you might find someone interested to pay more. Ebay might be a good place to sell. You'll get a lot more interest than advertising locally.

Cool thing to find! See if the lower section of the drive has an oil fill screw and check it before you run it. Hate to think of it being dry.
Welcome to Iboats by the way!

Thanks for all the input. I did check the gear case, it had lube in it. I mixed up a batch (1 gallon ) of 50% and squeezed the bulb 4 or 5 times, Fired right up.I had the bottom end submerged just for noise control (air cooled). I ran the motor for 7 to 10 minutes just to make sure there was no gas leaking from the carb (there were no leaks) and wanted to try the transmission, then unhooked the gas line and ran it out. I can't seem to find the specifics on the motor but the Model # is 217-58880 serial # 210978, and it still has the original sears gas tank (mint condition just like the motor). Can I post for sale in this forum somewhere? If no one is interested,I'll probably list with e bay and see what happens. You guys think $150 - $200 is about right? Thanks again, Dave

Actually ads aren't permitted here. Your best bet will be eBay. You can specify local pickup if you don't want to bother shipping. Those 7.5s sell pretty well on eBay, especially in good condition like yours.

You might even get more than the figure I named.

Also, if you have a local craigslist site, you'll sell it the day you list it, I guarantee. Lots of folks looking for running outboards right now.
