Looks like it was run with no water to me. Check the water intake. You could put a drill chuck on the driveshaft and drop the unit in water to test it.

I agree looks like there may be a blockage in the powerhead or even a jammed thermostat?Looks like a restriction in the water supply and your impeller has ran dry so destroying itself..
