Brand New Johnson 2004 J150SX

I see that everything specifications wise is identical between the 150 and 175, down to the weight of the motor. Can someone enlighten me on what the differences are between one engine and the other? I heard someone say it's the carbs that are different, and that changing the carbs would bump you up in HP. I am not taking that with any degree of accuracy yet, but since all specs including weight are identical, the differences can't be major, in my opinion. Any assistance from experts will be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I just bought my boat and took possession last week. I did NOT get any type of literature or owners manual for the motor, was I supposed to get anything from the dealer? Thank everyone in advance for their help. Welcome!!<br /><br />The heads are different on some models and the carb assemblies. Same bore, stroke and gear ratio. On a maxed out set up there isnt a great deal of performance difference between the two.

the engine blocks are different probably port height don't waste alot of time/money trying to make yours a 175

This question comes up often and although its easy for the factory to use a single engine displacement for two, three, and even four different horsepower ratings, it is generally not economically worth while for an owner to attempt as there often are power head changes that only a machine shop can accomplish (porting for one). It's not just a matter of swapping parts.
