This thread makes me feel sad and happy at the same time. Bad that it happened, happy it was not me. Knock knock.

Interesting, the first photo with the boat in the air is a different boat than the boat upside down in the water. Just look at the bow and you'll see what I'm talking about. Hmmm.

I've seen this somewhere before in video format - wush I could remember where! The photos are probably video captures from a high quality, digital videocam.

PS: Just surfed a bit - can't find video aywhere. Maybe it was a series of photos that I saw. At any rate, pretty cool pics and a very sad yacht broker!

The yacht broker is happy, he got paid, and now has a second order.

The owner isn't too unhappy because he didn't pay, and got a great show for free!

The crane operator isn't very happy because he has to find a new line of work, but at least he gets unemployment for being incompetent. :(

It's you and I that arn't happy because our insurance premiums just went up by about $10 next year. I should at least get the video for that.

The boat in the first photo in the air has a large chunk of SS mounted to it to protect the bow from the anchor, the boat in the third picture, upside down, does not.

Re: Brand New Yacht Sunk at Launch

It might well have been knocked off but you wouldn't see it anyway. Look at the photo again and you will notice that it is very overexposed and washed out in the area of the bow. This is very common in cameras/photos just because the film or digital sensor can't deal with wide variations in lighting striking the surface of the object being photographed. This would be especially true if the meter on the camera was set to average the exposure readings, or if it was set to a spot meter mode and the area selected for proper exposure was much darker than the washed out area. It would also be especially true if the camera was a digital because film does a better job of dealing with contrast than digitals do.

Take a look at the striping on the side of the boat in both the first and lasst photos. There are also three items mounted to the bottom, ahead of the prop shafts. They appear in both photos in the same positions. I'd say its the same one.

When those pictures surfaced (haha) I thought it was a 'photoshop' job. A little poking around the net showed that it actually happened. It was a brand new 55' Carver Marquis being launched. At the dock were 2 insurance reps and 1 of them was the photographer.
What a mess...

Me too.... I've looked at the thing, every angle, and I can't tell a difference.

You do realize the bow is shown in the first picture, and the stern is closer in the second picture? Typically, the stern does look a little different than the bow.:D

Why have people aboard during such dangerous operation. I realize this is done every year without incident but why take chances...

Re: Brand New Yacht Sunk at Launch

I dont see what the problem is. It is not sunk in the pictures that i see. Did i miss smething here? There was 3 pics on the first post and in all 3 pics the boat was not sunk. Was there supposed to be other pics showing the boat sunk? They might have put it in the water a little to fast but its not sunk. And it looks to me like it might be upside down in the last picture but im not sure if thats the way its supposed to be though.

Drewmitch, I understand the title of the post might be a little off... But look closely to picture 2 and 3. If you still dont see a problem pls see an optometrist! LOL! Just messing with ya!
