I am in the process of replacing all of the bellows and gimbal bearing on my 1993 7.4L/Bravo 1 sterndrive. How do you get the small end of the shift cable bellows over the shift cable hex head nut. I have attached pictures to show my dillemma. Does one just lube it up liberally and force it over this nut? Shift_Bellows1.jpgShift_Bellows2.jpg

It goes on from the other end of the cable. You must remove the cable from the boat to do the job.

I knew you guys were going to say that. Would you by chance have any helpful hints on pulling and installing this shift cable including readjustment without having to buy some fancy tools?

Here is a link to Service Manual #11 section 4A covers replacing the cable.

.... without having to buy some fancy tools?

As you'll read in the section Don pointed you to, there are only 2 tools needed that total around $35 depending on where you buy them.

You might be able to get by without them but seems like that's not much to get it adjusted properly.

edit: I measured the dimensions of the "Core Wire Locating Tool (P/N 91-17262A1)" and it is 1/4 thick, 7 inches long, 2 inches high with a 1/8 inch slot so fabbing up something to those measurements would save buying one tool.
