I have a '96 Arriva with a 475hp big block in it with a bravo 3 leg and for some reason I am going through upper leg cases like crazy. It always breaks the cavitation plate at the back of the leg (piece closest to the transom) the last one only lasted two days. I can't figure out why this keeps happening. I have heard numerous reasons from: HP, to impact with debrit, weak cases, the list goes on.

Has anyone else ever exprienced something like this? My boat is kinda a b*stard boat in that nothing is original but I have had certified mechanics do all the work on it, so i doubt its an assembly concern.

Anyone who has any imput or suggestions please reply - thanks

Re: Bravo 3 - cavitation plates

Wow, so they are breaking at the leading edge (with reference to water flow) on the cavitation plate?

Is this the 24' with the 454?

How many have you gone through?

What was done just prior to the first time that it happened?

When does it happen, or do you just notice it when you put the boat on the trailer?

Can you post a picture of the rear of the boat and the damage that is occuring?

Yes its breaking on the leading edge - with respect to the water flow.

It has happened twice now - the first time it was cracked and when the leg was pulled off to replace the shift cable the leg case just fell apart.

2nd time I just noticed it when I put it on the trailer - didn't hit anything that I'm aware of when I was out.

The problem is I'm just not sure what is breaking it. I will try and post some pics tomorrow of the issue.

and yes this is the 24' with the 454
