Hear - hear!. I understand the performance benefits, but unless it's used off shore or in bottomless lakes It looks very vulnerable. Floating deadheads and general trash are common during the first six weeks of the upper Miss. river boating season. I you're lucky, the torpedo and skeg will deflect this stuff. But I and other boaters have gotten trash wedged between the prop and anti cavitation plate. This thing wouldn't stand a chance.

Thought I saw this design a while ago... was that VP?

Yes, VP came out with it a while ago . . . my thoughts were that Mercruiser was being a 'me too' . . . certainly not a broad base of application.

In Ted's link I ran across this - "Mercury built its first forward‑facing drive in 1949 when it invented the reversible gear case".

Has anyone seen one of these? Maybe they invented it, but never sold it and it's a way to say V-P copied Merc?

they require deeper water than a traditional outdrive.
