Re: Bravo question

DonS, if someone changed from an Alpha Gen 2 with a 5.7 to a Bravo with a Small Block Chevy of the same vintage, would they need to replace the Y-Pipe? I guess I am asking is the difference the width/shape/size at the exhaust elbow or is it different down at the transom plate where it bolts on?
Davis, the risers he is talking about are the pieces of the exhaust that are bolted on top of the exhaust manifolds. They "raise" the static line of the exhaust so that water doesn't just rush right back up the exhaust and into the motor.

I was originally thinking there was different Y's for Alpha and Bravo drives, but after some checking, I see that they are the same and will bolt to either.

Re: Bravo question

I also had to use 3 inch extensions between the elbows and the manifolds on mine to make it all fit and have the correct "rise" from the waterline to the top of the elbow.

Re: Bravo question

Yeah, but you changed engine manufacturers, Rick.

Don, thanks for the followup and the insight!

Re: Bravo question

That's true. Luckily the whole shebang came with the 3" extensions. Otherwise I would have had to buy them separate to get the recommended distance between the top of the riser and the waterline.

Re: Bravo question

Ok i have my housing on the boat and now i have to hook everything up to it.. I also have the steering hooked up. I didnt do the y pipes i just used exaust block off plate b/c i have through hull and i dont want to spend the money for silent choice.. Now my question. i have the 2 hoses coming from the housing do they go to my engine or to my box that sits off to the side? and i have also a wire that is coming from the housing in the same spot as the hoses wondering where that goes??? I need a diagram that shows you what goes where anyone know where to find one. and i also need to know where the water pump hooks up or if i need a water pump. I had someone helping me but they had to go out of the country working and i am kinda clueless on how to hook this thing backup..

Re: Bravo question

I think you're asking about #20 (Part 22-43828 ) in the following picture. (from Doug Russell)

It's a plastic flanged hose adapter. You'll need the gasket (#21) and probably the bolts too. You can order it either from Doug Russell, here on iBoats, or any Mercury parts supplier.

I have even seen them on ebay for about $10. But I think you're probably better off getting it from a Merc dealer.
