Hi guys - so been having issues with risers running real hot.. after a 2 minute WOT run after warming up both were 190-200 on top.. just too much for my liking.

So I ran some tests today - mine is a direct drive with a velvet, so after my pump I have the velvet inline cooler (stbd side), then after that the fuel cooler (port side) then it goes up to the circulating pump.

I tested a brand new quicksilver pump kit vs the 8 month old knock off chinese impeller and slightly worn housing and got exactly the same results after 3 tests.

At the circ pump i got 3" in a 5 gallon bucket which equates to 1 gallon/ 4 quarts.. then i plumber the raw output straight into a bucket bypassing both inline coolers - and got double the flow, im just ont he minimum of 2.5 gallons in a 15 sec stretch.

I will pull the coolers and disassemble the fuel cooler to see whats inside - i did reverse flush them 2 coolers and didnt notice much of anything except water coming out.

I was following the bravo water test - and ran a hose from pump inlet into a full 5 gallon bucket, ran the motor and waited till the idle settled down, then popped the output hose into an empty 5 gallon bucket and timed exactly 15 seconds.

Is the 50% drop in flow acceptable for inline coolers normal or is something suspicious there?

1997 bayliner tournament ski with a single hose going to bottom of each manifold - t-stat is 160 degree.

Thank

Are you the original owner? Has the raw water pump ever lost some blades that you could not find? If there is a plastic check valve between the fuel cooler and the thermostat housing raw water inlet. Take it off and look inside of it. I found pump impeller parts in that area and the engine was not overheating.
