Hey guys, I lost my book and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to break this engine in the right way!! It is a 1989 125hp force L drive, Brand new everything. Started it with the hose to see if she would run and runs great, but not exactly sure how to break it in!!

Thanks Marty

Re: Break-in Procedures

By new you mean rebuilt powerhead? Start with 24 to 1 on the oil mix and do that for at least 6 gallons of gas. Try and not go to above 2/3 throttle during that time. After the break in go back to 50 to 1. Keep an eye on the spark plug tips. You want them slightly oil and black. Best to run rich. Did a pro do the link and sync or did you do it? Make sure the idle mixture is slightly rich.

thanks for your reply, I did the rebuild, all tolerances were with-in the service book specs.I had a machine shop bore and fit the pistons. it shouldnt have a problem. so I run it for 6 gallons and its broke-in. The guy I built it for wants it to ski on the 4th of july weekend.
