I get my new boat in about a week. I did read the Honda BF25 Manual on the breakin procedures, and most everything else. I also read the FAQ which has this in there:

The manufacturers are also stressing proper and agressive break-in procedures to mate surfaces better and keep leakage into the crankcase (blow-by) to a minimum.

What exactly does agressive mean in this context?

My last motor was a 2002 Merc 50 EFI 4S and I had no problems. It seemed that the thing was not fully broke in until about 1/2 way through the second year. Thing kept getting smoother and idling at lower RPMs. I always made sure to warm it up for a few minutes and then I made sure to run it hard for 10 minutes before stalking the fish. Hated to sell the merc, but I want to fish some restricted lakes now.

We live in the age of tight tolerances & soft materials, proper break-in is crucial (as is oil, prop etc).
Don't baby it but also don't thrash it. Follow the instructions.

Agressive usually means varied throttle with short bursts of full throttle at sustained ideal operating temps, in other word, don't do it cold. You want it up to operating temp and then proceed with the break-in.

Aldo

I started fishing some lakes where there is a 25 HP limit. Had a Lund Explorer 1650 with a Merc 50, moved down to a Lund Rebel 1450 witha Honda 25. 25 would not work on the bigger boat - too much weight.

Thanks for the clarification. I pretty much did exactly what you said on my last break in. Followed the directions, made sure it was good and warm before hitting the throttle, and moving around the spectrum on RPMs during the breakin.

Just got done reading the 2stoke vs 4 thread. Lot of good info. I was actually looking for a Suzuki DT 25, but they are hard to come by here. Johnson 25 2 strokes are dogs, yamama 2 strokes are fiesty, and I can't deal with the merc linkage. I have had a good look at the Honda 25 compared to the suzuki. Suzuki handles a load better, Honda trolls better. For average load, Honda is pretty close in speed to the suzuki on similar boats. Pretty sure I am going to be happy with the new rig.
