OMAHA, NE (AP) -- ConAgra Foods -- which had to recall its Georgia-made peanut butter earlier this year -- is in the middle of another recall. This time it involves Banquet pot pies.

ConAgra voluntarily stopped production today at the Missouri plant that makes the Banquet pot pies after health officials said the pies may be linked to 139 cases of salmonella in 30 states.

ConAgra maintains that its chicken and turkey pies are safe if they're cooked properly. But the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a health alert this afternoon to warn consumers about the link between the company's product and the salmonella cases.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been tracking reports of the salmonella cases for the past seven days. A
CDC spokeswoman said the largest numbers of salmonella cases had been reported in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Missouri.

If they wish, consumers may return these products to ConAgra Foods for a refund by sending the side panel of the package that contains the code "P-9" to ConAgra Foods, Dept. BQPP, P.O. Box 3768, Omaha, NE 68103-0768. If consumers prefer, they may return the product to the store from which it was purchased for a refund; consumers should discard the product prior to returning the entire package to their retail store.

Consumers with questions regarding the cooking of Banquet pot pies may call 1-866-484-8671 or contact us online at www.conagrafoods.com/contactus. For more information on food safety, consumers may reference IFIC.org.

That's ok SBN. I'll be safe. Chicken pot pies cannot make it past my gag reflex. Early childhood training, I suppose!

SBN: Thanks for the heads-up on this!

(I've already told MY chickens to stop making pot pies and start with brownies.)
