Re: breaking in new 4stokes

Making oil is a combination of things in my view and you can still have the problem even though you followed proper break-in procedures. Over propping for example is not just a wide open throttle issue. If the prop is wrong at wide open throttle it's wrong at any speed less than that as well. Lugging is lugging, -- it doesn't matter what speed you are going at the time. Prolonged idle does not let the engine get hot enough to burn off any fuel that gets past the rings. Never running hard enough and long enough also prevents burning off the excess fuel. If you run almost exclusively at idle I would strongly suggest you make frequent oil changes. At least pay attention to oil level and smell the dipstick periodically to ensure it doesn't smell like fuel contamination. Consider that the engine can actually use oil because of the fuel contamination so it may appear oil level is not rising when in fact the consumed oil is being replaced by bypassed fuel. Fuel is not a good lubricant. But then you may not even have the issue. However if you don't check -- you will never know until the engine grenades and then you will kick yourself for not keeping an eye on things.
