Re: Breaking news!

PW, Do you really want to get into how many "different types" of LIBERAL there are?

There's the I-can't-help-myself-give-me-my-welfare-check type, the pot-smokin-hippie-burnout-from-the-60's type, the mandatory-gay-education type, the I'm-too young-to-know-any-better type, but mostly there is the commie-traitor-I-hate-america-and-worship-france type.

You are correct. I saw no logical reason to list conservatives in with the liberals.

They're called "conservatives"..
I keep telling you liberals to "look it up", yet you come back again and again to show your ignorance (which is apparently desired over knowledge or truth to you guys).
So ok..... I'll do yer homewerk again. PAY ATTENTION to the second definition as it is the one that prooves that you are full of it.
Once again , you tried to replace liberal values with conservative ones, and call it "liberal" -- or vice/versa.

Re: Breaking news!

The gall to even attempt to equate constitutionalism to liberalism helps define liberalism.
How many liberal constitutionalists can you name?
None -- especially of the still-living type. Because there aren't any.
Merriam again said:

Pronunciation:-sh(*-)n*-*li-z*m
Function:noun
Date:1832

: adherence to or government according to constitutional principles; also : a constitutional system of government
–constitutionalist \-list\ noun

Re: Breaking news!

NY is considering legislation to make it mandatory that all judges from the small little villages to the big cities be lawyers. This type of law would make lawyers an enlightened bourgeoisie and everyone else an ignorant proletariat don't you think?
If only lawyers can interpret the law as a small town judge, I would think that one must also be a lawyer to obey the law.
It is just another example of how lawyers are trying to gain more power.
Nobody is saying that we don't need lawyers. Lawyers have their place in society like any other occupation. We don't need one type of occupation ruling all the others.

Now there is a comment just guaranteed to generate a lot of truly thoughtful comment and debate.
That's one thing about conservatives, if they can't win on the merits of their arguments, they can overwhelm you with the sheer number of adjectives they can string together when discussing their opposition. I'm not sure it counts for anything, but it is sometimes entertaining.

They're called "conservatives"..

So sorry footer, didn?t mean to offend, should have made myself clearer .The group I was referring too was the present administration, one could hardly call them conservatives according any definition of the word including your own.

< a : disposition in politics to preserve what is established>

lets take a look at that one, preserve what is established=The Constitution established that the United States has three branches of government, legislative ,judicial and executive. They were established as co-equal, the President is misusing signing statements and it is an assault on the constitution. The President has taken the practice to a new level, at over 100 signing statements, containing over 500 constitutional challenges in his attempts to mollify any legal restrictions on his actions. In other words he is ignoring the constitution.

To me that don?t look like preserving what has been established, looks like an assault on the constitution, but of course it is by the Bush administration not any conservative group.

.

<the tendency to prefer an existing or traditional situation to change>-

President Bush has pretty well ignored a law that has been on the books since 1978 that states that wiretapping on U.S. citizens with out probable cause is prohibited without a warrant. I kinda think on the lines of Senator Arlen Specter when he says the President is cherry picking the laws that he feels like obeying. I don?t know about you footer, but any law that has been on the books since 1978 ,to me looks like it should be considered ?traditional? to me.

Here is another part of that ?piece of paper ?called the bill of rights. I get real nervous when anybody starts cherry picking this bill. Must be the conservative in me working it self out.

<Amendment I

<Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. >

<Amendment V
