Well I have adopted a briggs 5hp outboard from my brother. He wants 300 for it but I have just found so many issues with it not sure if it is worth it. Anyway right now when I get above half throttle the motor wants to die on me. I have cleaned the carb out, put in a new fuel filter and spark plug. It does seem to run better with the rev limiter disconnected but still has a miss. The big thing is it was not stored correctly and when I initially started it, it blew a bunch of white smoke out of it. After a minute or so of that the white smoke stopped and the motor runs and starts no problem and pushes the boat great even at half throttle. Anybody have any ideas and if it was a blown head gasket or something internal in the motor would run good up to half throttle?
