Has anyone heard of a problem with the Briggs & Stratton 5 HP gas outboards, where the engine will fall off into the water? I saw a Youtube video where the engine fell off into the water and it stranded the boat. This would be very dangerous if it happened while trailering at 65 mph. I would like to collect any information about this safety issue that I can find.

Damn, I've had a pallet of Pine bark mulch (a couple of pounds greater then a B&S 5 horse) fall off in front of me...

And if the boat was being trailered in a forest, would the trees call the owner? 'Cause the owner wouldn't know it fell off...;)

the only reason i can think of, is the mounting clamps were not tightened.

Re: Briggs Outboard Engine Falls Off

I have seen the video on youtube it appears the swivel part of the bracket broke, kind of split open. They were having a good laugh about it.Post does sound a little like a troll.I lost 2 motors to loose clamps.a 1.5 when I was about 8 or 9 and an 18
when I was about 16.I can still see the 18 disappearing below the water at about 20 mph as the gas line snapped. It was kind of amazing how far the boat glided without the motor.
