Half is too much... Even if that was the first time they did that (which I seriously doubt), it would be a good bet that there are other things they did - or didn't do - that would be bad for it.

Man that thing runs like a charm! I liked how it cut out and he just cranked it right back up. I wonder how long he warmed it up before he got it to ilde like that in cold weather? :D PRICELESS!

That made me cringe to watch it.

A related story...

A few years ago I noticed my neighbor from 3 houses up pulling home a boat. I'd never noticed a boat in his yard before so I assume he'd just gotten it. Soon after, I heard a sound similar to a chainsaw. I looked up the hill and sure enough it was my neighbor out there with that boat. I could not see the foot of the motor but it just seemed way too loud for a motor running in a drum. Well he revved it up a few times and it stopped running. I have never heard it run since and to my knowledge the boat hasn't been moved since either.

Re: brilliant marketing / craigslist rules...

I went to look at a motor that was listed on craigslist last summer. It was listed as needing a lower unit, damaged on ramp. When I got there the motor was running, hanging on a board in a bench vise in the garage, the lower unit was off and sitting in a box, completely smashed. He said he wanted to warm it up so I could see how well it ran, he said he removed the lower unit since it was only hanging on by one remaining bolt, and "Besides, if you run them out of the water, you can ruin the water pump". He had no clue what he was doing wrong, and there was no telling how long that motor was running before I got there. I shut it down and tried to explain, but in his world, it was all ok since the water pump can't get damaged if you remove it. He had no clue why the motor needed water. (Needless to say, I didn't buy the motor).
