hi folks. well, i have brought my new (used) problem home with me from rapid city, SD. a 1975 aristocraft nineteen w/ a mercruiser 165hp. (il6)
this engine looks like it aint had much replaced on it. like the black paint is still on most bolts, and the rubber parts that i can see still seem plyable, ie hoses, belt, even the bellows. drive held 15 psi and vac tested at holdin 8".
i already have a few known issues but am wondering what pm i should be takeing to bring it back to life after sitting for 15 years, any suggestions?
at this point i would think a minor tune up, oil change, pull the drive to check u-joint and gimble brg. hit all grease points, what am i missing?
know issues are, minor bend on skeg on model 1 drive, rub rail loose for 1.5' on starboard bow, trim only works in trailer mode. oem vac gage only reads 5" max. evedense of a manifold water leak in the middle side, twds bottom. thou it didn't leak on the test run.
compression was 125, 119,130,138,125,124. ft to rear. compression test done before and after lake test. not much change after being run. 2 still came in at about 120. should i run a bit of marvel mystery oil in it? perhaps something else, or not bother with that.
took this boat on the lake and it ran dandy for a 1.5 hr test drive. which i can't believe....but it did....
hope i didn't just buy another pain in the #%^, but that's what did. i bought it......time will tell.......
side note. brought it home and now it's raining.....figures.......
