My son, a good buddy, and I have both been wanting a boat for a while. One of our coworkers had this 19ft VIP Valiant for sale. It had been sitting outside under a deteroriating cover for about 2 years. It was dirty and oxidized! Upon further inspection we discovered the block (4.3)had cracked from not being winterized properly. Knowing that a new engine was needed we struck a deal(that we were very happy with) and towed the boat to its new home. The gel coat was chaulky, the interior was dirty and moldy. The carpet had, below the leaves, some stains.
We starrted on the hull first.
After testing a couple of polishes and compounds we came up with the game plan to bring the boat back to life. The plan was simple. Wet sand, compound, polish, glaze, then 2 (or more) coats of wax.
Products used on the hull:
3m 1500 wet sand paper
3m rubbing coumpound
Optimum Polish
Poor Boys Glaze
Colinite 845 wax
Meguiars #26.
When we first got the boat:
