Hi guys, I recieved an e-mail from Kiwi Phil today asking if I could post this problem for him, if he replys to me via e-mail I will post accordingly, thanks. Aldo

" I am unable to log onto i-boats maybe 75% of the time. I try first to log on by calling up favorites, then by putting i-boats.com in google, absolutely nothing happens. Almost as if a time bar is locked on.

Occasionally I can post and everything goes well but probably only 2 out of 10 attempts.

This has only occured since I went to broadband back in June.
Any suggestions? I will try/try/try to log on to read them although I may not be able to reply. I must stress, I have no other problems whatsoever with any other site."

Phillip

Call the broad band provider. Also check internet security settings and make sure they are not set too high. My cable provider walks me though problems when I call them and have fixed many simialar problems from proxy setting to wep encryptions.

Re: Broadband problems (Kiwi Phil)

I think Phils' main frustration is that he only has trouble with the i-boats site, wouldn't the security and proxy settings affect all sites? Maybe he has inadverently 'blocked' this site in his setup. I'll pass on your suggestions. Thanks.

Aldo

IMO, some sort of spy bot is hindering you. Been there. I will run a spy bot progy time to time, remove or disable what is found, and all is well for some time.

Shame that these bots hinder us.

Re: Broadband problems (Kiwi Phil)

When he says "nothing happens" does he mean that he tries to access the site and instead gets a "The page cannot be displayed" or similar message?

Is he using a proxy server, or does he have a direct connection? (Tools->Internet Options->Connections->Lan Settings->Proxy Server)

When he's having problems he can also try bringing up a DOS window (Start->Run->type in 'cmd' and run it)and running the command:

c:>tracert www.iboats.com

to see if there's a potential congestion problem somewhere along the path. (I say potential because of the way wide area networks function, traffic out doesn't always follow the same path as traffic back, so tracert can give misleading results)

Running a spybot-killer like Ad-Aware and/or Spybot Search&Destroy (V1.3) regularly is always a good suggestion, even if it didn't directly help in solving this problem.

Re: Broadband problems (Kiwi Phil)

I left out a part of Phils' e-mail that may be important:

"When I do manage to to get logged on to i-boats everything works fine & quick until I decide to either post or reply or post a new topic, when I want to send the green bar moves maybe three places over a long period of time then the page goes blank. I can hit 'back' and it goes back but I can't open any subjects."

I haven't had any e-mails from Phil for a day or so now, I suspect he is having more problems.

Aldo

Aldo,
I too, had some problems just last week where I could log in OK but the page would time out on me within seconds. This happened a number of times but has come right of its own accord.
Big mystery indeed as no settings had changed.
We are back working OK now.

EDIT::
I should have said that I use a laptop on a LAN from the desk at work with a Broadband Conn from there. I am on wireless ADSL from it now at home.
At home I also have an ADSL connection from telecom on the desktop computer downstairs.

Peter

Re: Broadband problems (Kiwi Phil)

This is a copy of Phils' latest e-mail:

"Thank you everybody for your help.
I am a bigger idiot with the computer than I am with a boat engine.
The screen is blank in so much as it still has “File Edit View etc” across the top, and the word “Done” at bottom left corner, plus of course “Start” right at bottom left. The page in the middle has nothing on it - just white..
When I go to Favourites a second time, and double click iboats, nothing at all happens. The bar on bottom right that shows the green strips does not come up. Nothing happens.
This has only happened since I went to Broardband. I have a Dynalink RTA100+ Router/Modem.
Yesterday I had no problem getting on to iboats and moving about the Forums, but got jammed when I posted a reply. So I went off the net, then back on, and had no trouble going around the forums again, but could not post a reply.
Today I can not even get on to iboats.
I am using Optus, but i know Telstra own the lines and the exchanges.
Sometime when I try to connect to the internet, I do get the “this page cannot be displayed”, so i mannually turn off the Router/Modem for 10 seconds, turn it on again and wait for all the lights to stop flashing, and usually can go straight on to the net.
Thank you for your replies everbody.
Cheers
Phillip "

Re: Broadband problems (Kiwi Phil)

This is a non related issue and I doubt it has anything to do with Iboats however you should go to the web site for your router and modem if you have one and get the latest firmware or drivers. IF you have to reset your router because of lockups you are probably using the factory installed drivers/ firmware that came with the box. I had to reset my router every couple of days till I updated my firmware.

Then again the Kualas and kangaroos got mad about being called marsupials instead of animals and they are creating enough harmonic distortion that you can not get into iboats.

Re: Broadband problems (Kiwi Phil)

For Kiwi_phil via Dunaruna,

I had exactly the same problem with another site I use as my home page. Something in my browser went screwy and it would not display the required info, only 'DONE' at the bottom of the page.

What I did was to completely uninstall the browser, delete all the 'residual' folders and files, re-install the browser and start again.

Hope this helps,

Chris............
