Broken Aerostar hood latch

I have a 1996 Ford Aerostar with a hood latch that does not engage. The "safety" latch catches, the one you have to move as the last step to open the hood, but the "locking" latch does not engage. Thus I have the hood tied down to prevent it from flying open at high speeds.
Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this problem?
I haven't been able to see if the hood release lever actually moves the latch release or not. Will get the wife to pull the release while I see if the latch disengages or otherways moves at all

Thanks in advance :D

Re: Broken Aerostar hood latch

There Should be a little bit of Adjustment available in the Latch, where it mounts to the Rad. Support..... And, Possibly some adjustment at the Catch side(on the Hood) of it........
My Guess is that you need to move them Slightly Closer together......
Also,... There's an adjustment to allow the Hood to be moved up or down, so the body lines, line-up...... It's Usually done on the outside front corners... A couple of little posts, with rubber bumper stops on them...... loosen the jam-nuts,+ screw them up or down...

1st,... Check to make sure the Latch is in the Open position............

Re: Broken Aerostar hood latch

Thanks. I went out just now and sprayed the entire assembly with spray lube and it "freed" up. Latches fine now
